Back to School Prep!

Back to School Prep!

Thank you so much for sharing!

Hello there!

I wanted to share with you how we are getting ready for Back to School!  This will be the first year both of my kids will be in school, so we had some things we needed to do to get prepared ;).

The first thing that we did was sort and re fold clothes.  I wanted to make sure everything in their drawers fit them so they can be in charge of getting themselves dressed each day!  We were due for this chore anyway, so we made 4 bag of clothes to donate.

Now everything is folded and organized.  It won’t stay this way for long, I’m sure but it’s a good start!

The next thing we did was purchase the supplies as listed out by their individual teachers.  My husband went through and labeled all of their supplies and backpacks with a sharpie and got everything organized to take with us to orientation/meet your teacher day at the school before the first official day.  He’s in the Army so we joked that he was the parent to do this task!

Next I made anything that was on the list that I could or wanted to make.  For example, my son needed 2 pencil pouches.  He liked one at Target and it was only $3, but he didn’t like any of the other ones so I told him I would make him the 2nd one.  He chose this fabric from my stash.

I have a bunch of zip pouch tutorials on YouTube like THIS one and THIS one if you need to make your own.

My daughter was instructed to bring a king size pillow case for her quiet time.  She will be in full day kindergarten so they have a short rest time in the afternoon. The 2 pack at Target was… $28! Yikes!  I had this pink flannel on hand at home, so I decided to make her one really quick instead 😉

The next thing I did, was think about what I wished I had last year.  One of the improvements I’d like to make is on their lunches. I saw this set of tupperware and wanted to try it out for fresh things like fruits and veggies.

The last thing we did was HAVE FUN!

We took the kids to the beach and will be headed to the fair and a baseball game in the coming days to enjoy some family time together before the grind.

I am so happy that I came upon your tutorials recently. You got me quilting-something I've wanted to do for years, but was intimidated by the whole process! So far I' ve made three! Also, you got me crocheting more. I am a knitter but I like crochet for some items too. I made your hat with the bow on the side. Looking forward to seeing your quilt-a-long this Fall. Keep up the great work. You are a very good teacher ( I know- I was a teacher for 20 years !).

Thank you for opening a new door to quilting for me! I am very new to qulit making, and I use that term VERY loosely! I am 68 years YOUNG and with age have developed arthritis in both hands. My sewing machine is now my new best friend! Keep up the GREAT WORK! You inspire me with each and every video! You're the best!
