QuiltCon Trip Recap Part 1

QuiltCon Trip Recap Part 1

Thank you so much for sharing!

Hey Everyone!

I got back from QuiltCon a little over a week ago and I thought I would share with you a little bit about my trip.  I’m going to do part 1 today and then I will show you the books I bought, some of the QuiltCon swag and the projects I worked on in more detail later this week!

QuiltCon was in Austin Texas and my Mom is a quilter too so we went together!  It was fun to get to see her since she lives in Virginia, I don’t get to see her as much.

Here we are before the Moda Party…

The Moda party was held on that Thursday night.  They rented out The Mohawk, a trendy bar downtown for quilters to get crazy LOL!

It was super fun to get to meet Vanessa Wilson aka the Crafty Gemini!  She was so nice, we got to talk YouTube and the online sewing biz 😉

I also got to see my friend Sarah aka Blueprint Textiles.  I met here when I lived in Hawaii!  She has longarmed a few things for me and we were in the Oahu Modern Quilt Guild together. She’s also an army wife, so it was fun to catch up with her!

I also got to meet the lovely ladies of the Fat Quarter Shop!  They came and found me at the Moda Party.  It was so great to meet them in person since we email all the time!  They sponsor my blog and are huge supporters of the online quilting community.

Here I am traveling in style and handmade with my new Kelly Moore bag and my handmade Art Student Tote that I made a few years ago with Anna Maria Horner linen fabrics.

Here’s a better photos of my Kelly Moore bag… I’m a little obsessed.  It was great to travel with and kept my laptop and nice camera safe while I was traveling.  I love that it looks chic and more like a purse than an industrial camera bag style.

I also did a little YouTube video recap video, so here it is!  Are you going to be at QuiltCon West in Pasadena CA next year?  It’s only about 45 minutes from me, so I will be there!

Melanie, I love your tutorials. So thorough and you go through each step from beginning to end with the videos filmed with the viewer in mind. I have watched a lot of shows on quilting and crafting and you can rarely see what is being shown without fingers or hands in the way. Yours are perfectly filmed. I also like the speed up on seams, etc.

You are a natural speaker and teacher and I look forward to watching more of your videos.

Thankyou from one who learns more from observing than listening! Joan

Loved your video about QuiltCon. I've been meaning to e-mail you for some time. I learned to crochet and knit as a little girl at a neighborhood yarn shop. I knitted and crocheted a basic scarf and never never picked up my needles again. Fast forward 40+ years and I've considered crocheting again and was inspired during the Christmas holiday by my cousin that crochets.

I went to Michael's to buy some crochet hooks and to my surprise there was a yarn sale, so I stocked up. I was happy to find how to crochet videos on YouTube. I practiced all of the crochet stitches and felt ready to crochet a scarf. That's when I found you on YouTube and your fabulous infinity scarf video. I have since made 5 infinity scarves, 4 hats, a headband, a shawl, a baby blanket and I've just started on mittens. I owe all of this to you and your infinity scarf and baby blanket videos that got me started!

I love to crochet and will continue to make more items! You also helped me with my perfectionism, not every project is perfect, it doesn't have to be, I simply persevere. Thank you, A Big Fan. I would love to e-Mail you some pictures.
