Drawstring Crochet Bag Pattern – Star Stitch

Thank you so much for sharing!

Hi there! Today, I’m sharing a great free drawstring crochet bag pattern in the beautiful star stitch! These crochet bags are versatile and achieve a different result based on they type of yarn that you choose which lets your own creativity and style shine!

What type of yarn is best for this crochet bag pattern?

The yarn choice is going to depend on the function that you want this bag to have. The rainbow version was made with a softer, silkier sport (size 3) yarn. I have a spare ball of yarn in there to hold it upright, but this won’t hold it’s shape on its own.

The most functional bag I made is this version with t-shirt style yarn or more of a home dec style. It is very sturdy and holds it’s shape on whether items are in there or not. I used macrame rope for the drawstring which makes this extra functional as well.

This worsted weight version is also very functional. It holds it’s shape well and will be a great options since many crocheters keep this style of yarn in your stash so you wont have to run out to the store to find something that will work to get started right away! This is one of those self striping yarns that make it looks really fun without having to change your colors.

The Star Stitch

Have you ever made the star stitch before? I have an entire video and post on how to crochet the star stitch on if you need a refresher or want to try it out before committing to this project.
