Hey Everyone! Today I’d like to show you how to make this easy crochet basket. This basic patterm is great for beginners and is the basis for so many other types of crochet projects so it’s great to learn. The clothesline is a little tricky at first, but it creates a cool look and works up so quickly!
I have been wanting to make some crochet baskets for awhile now and I have wanted to do a crochet project that used unconventional “yarn” too…. so we have both of those in this project! The video shows you how to make the white clothesline/rope basket and I have the instructions for the cotton yarn basket a little further down in this post! I hope you enjoy!
Here’s another great crochet basket tutorial with macrame cord!

Hey Melanie. I just love all of your tutorials. I have purposes in my mind to crochet with your tutorials as I am a beginner. I made one of these baskets and I just love it! I am making more for around the house and as gifts to stuff with bath and body works and such.
I have a question. How can I make one larger around? I tried but I had a big mess that kept rippling.
Thank you so much for your tutorials. I would have given up by now if not for you.
Have a blessed day and HAPPY CROCHETING!
Harley
I would like the answer also on how to make this rope basket larger, please. If you”vet already answered this, I Do Not to how to find it. Please and thank you.
loved the tutorial and can’t wait to make my first one
Making the cotton yarn basket now…..love your tutorial. Could you reply what the diameter of the cotton yarn and also the clotheline basket are that you made. Also , how tall you made them
Thank you
Thanks for the super simple tutorial! I’ve made two of these gems using cotton yarn! I just LOVE Them!
Started making this basket using heavy yarn as I didn’t have rope handy. My base is getting terribly “ruffley” all the way around. I kept going thinking it might straighten out but no luck. I honestly think it’s getting worse with a more pronounced ruffled edge. I remembered that I tried a similar project before with the same results. Any idea why I keep getting this effect?
Mine did that to….did u ever figure out what made it do that
You are adding an extra stitch in each row. Each row should increase by 7.
loved this basket…cant wait to try it and your instructions are so easy to read and understand..thanks.
Love the baskettutorial. Made it so easy to follow and make the rope basket. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. Mine turned out absolutely perfect!!! I’m in the process of making one with yarn, as the one with the clothesline is going to a friend- but maybe I’ll just have to make one more!!!!
Thank you so much Melanie. I’m fairly new at crochet and your videos are perfect!!!!

What size needle for the clothesline basket?
LO.VE this tutorial! I’ve been wanting to make a rope basket. I’d like to make a larger one to hold blankets. Would that require more SCs in the magic loop, or can I just keep increasing until I get to the base size I want? Thank you so much!
These would be awesome for hair ties, and a quick place to put earrings.
This is really cool! It looks tough to work with but it is such a cool basket.
Such cute baskets! I have to chuckle every time I watch your crochet videos when you always say about a end stitch calling it ” This little guy” so funny how you say it! Haha!
Great job with the tutorial. I am trying to figure out right now what all to sew and crochet for my first grand baby that will be born the first of January. Will try this basket after that.
Thanks Meliane
