MHD’s Window Jane block tutorial

Thank you so much for sharing!

I have been working on my Dad and Stepmom’s quilt this weekend, it has a name now – the Window Jane Quilt.  Window because the blocks I designed look like little windows looking into a cute little garden of 4 squares and Jane because I am using Heather Baileys’s Nicey Jane fabric line for this quilt.

Here is a little tutorial on how to make this simple little Window Jane Block.

The super nice thing about this block is that all the pieces start from a 2 1/2 inch strip so it makes it super easy to cut and jelly roll friendly.

First, cut:
2  –  2 1/2 x 8 1/2
2  –  2 1/2 x 4 1/2
4  –  2 1/2 squares

I used 6 different prints to make this block.

Using a 1/4 inch seam allowance, sew the left 2 squares together and the right 2 squares together

Make sure to match up your seams

I like to press my seams openI think it creates less bulk and makes things smoother for machine quilting, but you can iron the seam to one side as well.

Next, sew the 4 1/2 inch pieces to the top and bottom of the little 4 patch, trim threads and press.

Lastly, sew the 8 1/2 inch strips to each side, trim and press.  Finished Block is about 8 1/2 inches squaure, mine are 8 1/4 when trimmed up.
