Hello Everyone!!
I’m so excited about this next endeavor! Part 1 of my quilting series is live! This has been in the works for many weeks, so its nice to finally have the first video up for you to see. I designed this series for you to feel like you are in the studio with me, it’s a slow pace and jam packed with information and value – and great for beginners or experienced quilters alike. If you don’t want to make this exact quilt, there will still be lots of tidbits for you to learn along the way.
This is the quilt we will be making. A twin size quilt, but instead of this fabric we are using Amy Butler’s new line of fabric called Bright Heart… it’s so pretty!
I was very thankful to have some sponsors for this project. They have donated supplies and made it possible for me to really focus on this series for the month of August!
Aurifil Thread, my personal favorite thread company! Aren’t these delicious?!
Have you ever used Clover notions? They are some of the best out there, love them!

Melanie – love this quilt pattern and want to make it for my daughter for Cmas – – do you have info on how to make this bigger? for a double bed? how much more fabric do I need??
Help – – I don’t know how else to reach out to you (I didn’t see an email).
Thanks in advance!
Hi, thanks for the lovely video – I have been looking for inspiration for the Bright Heart layer cake that I just got, and your quilt might just be the answer. I love pretty much everything about quilting, but most of all the design stage where I can create very colourful things – bliss – and all the hand-sewing bits like applying the binding, embroidering labels and so on. Thanks again and keep’em comin’! Aggie.
I am so thrilled about your quilting tutorials. I never ever thought about making a quilt till I started following you on you tube. I have made a few small ones since I started watching you. I love it ! Thanks so much for your inspiration to help me sew a quilt.
Hi Melanie: I love your new quilting series! I started quilting years ago and am excited to start quilting again. I love all your tutorials, especially the crochet ones. You’re very informative and with all your expertise and guidance I feel confident my quilting and crochet skills will increase exponentially! Thank you for everything you do for us crafters!

Love your videos, so up beat. I have been quilting for a long time, but a refreasher on cutting is always good! My favorite part of quilting is choosing the fabric, I love to expirament with different color combinations and mix fabric types.
I love the idea of making my own quilt! I discocered youre YouTube Channel during my vacation, I’m allready at my third project and I love It! I have been showing of youre video during lunch Time at work! Thank you for your inspiration!
Excellent series! Look forward to learning more!
Hi Amy!
Like everyone else I am pretty new to quilting, but have found it to be a new love and interest. My grandma was a sewer and so was my mom so I think I found my love and passion for sewing threw them! Anyways, my favorite part of quilting is the accomplishment you get when you finish something and the excitement that runs through your body. It is amazing to sit back and reflect on something that you worked very hard on. I also like quilting because we are carrying on a tradition that goes back years and years and I think it is really neat to be apart of something great! Can’t wait to follow along!
Best,
Morgan
Hi, I am new to watching your you tube channel and I have fallen in love with your tutorials. I am new to quilting ( sewing) . I have only made one quilt ? (first project ever) and I will start on my second one with your tutorial. I got turned on to quilting by my friend at work. I bought my first sewing machine in December a juki! I love quilting because after a long shift (12hr shift RN) I can come home and take my mind off of everything when I piece and I can get lost in it. I do have to say that free motion quilting is emotional for me at this point because I am new…..but with your tutorials I am sure I will start using my sewing machine to make those fun pouches you have on your channel. Thanks again, ? Grace.
Hi Melanie,
Love your video! When I’m going to cut fabric I’m always hesitant, now after watching your video I FEEL more at ease. I’ve only made quilted bags (never a quilt). I’m TOO afraid because I’m not sure how to cut the fabric to its right size or select the right color, etc.. HELP!!!!!!!
I have also watched your other videos and love them. But I love this one more I can follow you step-by-step. Thanks again for this quilting series! I’m very excited.
Judy?
P.S. My fingers are crossed for the giveaway. The fabric is gorgeous !!!!!!!! Keep up the great job 🙂
My favorite part of quilting is the actual free motion quilting; however, I am still not good as I hope to be. I cannot stop quilting. I believe my middle name should be Quilt. I do so enjoy your tutorials. They are upbeat and informative. They make me believe that I can do anything.
This is awesome and helpful. I have made small quilts. Inspired to make a larger one.
Melanie, I just discovered your site and have enjoyed your YouTube videos immensely. I’ve quilted for many years but I’m always on the lookout for new ideas. The pink quilt just blew me away and I wanted to make one too. Over the years I’ve always used patterns found in books and magazines. I’ve recently started only using patterns designed by individuals such as yourself because they are fresh seem to fit my needs better. Thank you for sharing your talents with us, and keep up the excellent work. This will be a Christmas present.
I love this new quilting video. I have been quilting a long time, and my favorite part is sewing the pieces together. Soothing to me hearing the machine running. I always love to see new videos, I seem to pick up something new with each one. Thank you for this quilt series. Look forward to the next one. Thank you?
Hi Melanie! I was so excited when you announced you were going to do a series on quilting. I have been following you and your other crafts for several months now and have really enjoyed your enthusiasm and have learned some great things. Quilting, however, goes back a long way for me. I grew up helping my mom, aunt, and grandmother hand quilt on wooden frames that they would put up and take down in one of the rooms of our houses. Of course, I was so young I was only allowed to do straight stitches on specific parts of the quilt.
Fast forward many years and I have found myself wanting to learn as much as I can about quilting – in a way, I guess, to honor my mom who has advanced Alzheimer’s. I have the last quilt she was able to work on and I treasure it. I want to be able to pass this beautiful art down to my daughter, so I am soaking up all the info I can get. Following your quilting video is going to make this learning process an exciting adventure!
Thank you so much for teaching us. 🙂
Frances
Hi Melanie,
Thank you for being such an inspiration! I have been sewing and crafting for about 40 years and have recently found “you tube”. Your videos are the most exciting and easy to follow of all the how-to videos out there. I have shared your videos with my friends and family and they also are subscribed to your channel.
You are a great teacher and I love your step by step and am excited to make this quilt! Quilting is the one area of crafting and stitching that I have not mastered as I was confused following patterns. Your video makes me excited to take on this project. Thank you also for introducing me to the wonderful sponsors of your channel. I am inspired by fabric and I love the Amy Baxter fabrics that you showcased. I usually purchase the exact materials that you use, so thank you for sharing this information.
This video is just in time to start making Christmas gifts! Thank you again Melanie! You are a blessing to me! I will send you pictures of the crocheted baby blankets and the spring scarf that I have made following your video.
Thank you again! Angela
I Love all of your crafty videos, I am excited to follow you with this twin quilt. I love how you show how to measure on a ruler that always seems to be the hard thing for me so the close ups help a lot and that you just take it slow and easy. I have sewn a little but I have always wanted to learn how to quilt and this quilt is beautiful so I will be following you along on this tutorial. Thanks for all that you do I always get excited when I get an email that you have a new video out. Keep up the good work Melanie.
I love your blog and am so thrilled that you are doing a quilting video. Your instructions are very specific and easy to follow and will be a good incentive for new quilters. I have been quilting for several years but am always eager to try new things. Thanks for doing an awesome job for all the quilters out there!
I love quilting! I find it very therapeutic after a long day at work. Sewing on the binding is my favorite part of the quilting process. Completing a project gives me a sense of accomplishment and I have something wonderful to show for my time!
Hi! I’m so excited for this project! This will be my first quilt and can’t wait to get started.
I’m going to enjoy seeing the quilt take shape.
Thanks so much for all the time and effort that you are putting into this.
Wanda ?
I have not quilted yet, but am very excited to be learning how. I love your crochet videos and have enjoyed this video as well. I have been slowly purchasing some of the supplies I will be needing and super excited to start!! Thanks for such detailed instructions. Your passion for what you do really shows through!
I love making quilts! I love pulling all the colors together. And the actual quilting is the best part because it makes the quilt. Everyone I’ve made a quilt for is always in awe of the final product. I would absolutely love to make a quilt for everyone one is my very large family! But I am sticking with the new babies for now. I would love to make a twin size for my Granddaughter! Would love to make this quilt from your video. Can’t wait for the next lesson. Thanks!
