About me

Melanie Ham

Hi there!  My name is Melanie and I’m so glad you’re here! I am the owner and operator of this website and write all of the content.  Although sometimes my mom Mama Lisa contributes occasionally too! Welcome to my site, Melanie Ham!

I took a beginning sewing class at Joann Fabrics back in 2007 and bought a sewing machine shortly after.  I had a little extra time on my hands while I was finishing college and my husband had just joined the U.S. Army ;).  I started sewing crafty stuff, just simple things and then in 2010 I made my first quilt and have been obsessed ever since.

Around the same time, I learned to crochet while my husband was deployed since it was a craft I could travel with. I started the YouTube Channel in December of 2011 and it took off beyond my wildest dreams.

The best thing is that I can work from home and keep my family top priority. We now live in a suburb of Los Angeles where my husband and I own and operate HAMMR Productions, a service disabled veteran owned production company.  We have been married 13 years and have 2 great kids who are 11 and 8.

Not only do I love DIY, Sewing, Quilting, Crochet and basically all the crafty things – I am very interested in fitness and nutrition, cold brew coffee, gadgets and tech, parenting my 2 beautiful kids, business development, personal development, home decorating and organization.

Dear Robert and family, I was so sad to learn of Melanie's passing. I often referred to her wonderful tutorials when I needed help with crocheting and sewing and am currently using her videos to help me learn to quilt. She was a wonderful teacher and just seemed like a really lovely person. I am so very sorry for your loss, and for your young children who had a wonderful mother. May it be some comfort to them in years to come to know how well thought of she was by her followers around the world. Kind regards, Amanda (UK).

Melanie. I love your tutorial on no-waste Flying Geese. I pulled up your chart and was making the 2" x 4" finished geese and when I tried to sew the geese to the 51/2" large square they were too small? The square has to be 41/2" for them to fit and the smaller squares have to be 21/2" to fit. Are the last two columns on the chart off by one line? Thank you.

I am so sorry for your loss. Cancer is indiscriminate and speeds along (sometimes in what seems a premature way) a process we all know is coming (our journey to the other side to meet God). I am sending warm prayers for your family during this difficult time.

Hi to the Ham family from Canada. I just started to learn to sew again after about 50 years lol. I decided I would like to make a quilt. I came across Melanies videos and loved them. I watched them over and over because she explained every detail for me. I loved it and was hooked. She made every step so easy. I was so excited to send a picture of it when I finish. Then I saw the news. I am sending you the biggest hug from Canada. She had the brightest smile and you can tell she loves her family. Please take care of yourselves. You have a beautiful angel watching over you now
