News from the Studio of Melanie Ham

Thank you so much for sharing!

The terrible news of Melanie’s passing was shared on social media, and we’re doing our best to notify everyone Melanie touched, taught, encouraged, and mentored. The announcement below was written by Melanie’s husband, Robert Ham on January 12th.

Melanie Ham (1985-2022)

It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness I share the news of the passing of my sweet, amazing, beautiful wife Melanie. If you’ve been following our journey I’m sure you were, like us, hopeful she could defeat this insidious disease. Over the past few months things have been progressively getting worse and we’re thankful that we made it to this point through the holidays and tried to make every moment count. We are short 9 days of our 16 year anniversary. My family, our doctors, our nurses and especially Melanie fought until the end and did all we could do to avoid today, but that is not our path. Let me reassure all those rooting for us, Melanie fought like a warrior queen.

Despite the deep grief my family and I feel today we want to celebrate an amazing woman and a life well-lived. She loved passionately, created beautifully, provided abundantly and was my best friend all the way to the end.

There will be more details about a ceremony shortly (see below). Please feel free to share your own photos, memories, and projects of Melanie that inspired you through the years. She was an extraordinary woman and God has another beautiful angel. She can now walk and sing, and dance in a way her body did not allow over the last few months. She relied on her faith in Jesus all the way to the end and she will always be with me.

I’m so immensely grateful for the gifts and messages and especially prayers, thank you. I’m so thankful for our amazing family, her parents Don and Lisa and their wonderful spouses Larry and Belinda, for my parents and my sister’s family, and all of our close friends walking this journey with us. She was so loved.

Peace and love to you all, hug those you love today, put up a toast of Bourbon (her favorite, that she hasn’t partaken in during her journey), and say a prayer for my beautiful, strong children.

– Robert

The crafting community has been an angora yarn lining in a quilted wrap around our family’s grieving hearts.  Your stories about the way Melanie’s tutorials built skills that calmed anxiety, polished self-esteem, and opened a conduit for handmade gift-giving have helped us all tremendously. Thank you for that.

Please remember her, and make something with your hands. Sprinkle love on your family and friends.

My condolences to the Ham family. I am so very sad to hear of Melanie’s passing. I’ve been learning to quilt and crochet thanks to her. Her inner beauty and light came across in her videos. She will be remembered fondly in all of our sewing projects.

Thank you Melanie for sharing your love of sewing and your talent.

Dear Robert, Eli, and Ainsley,

Melanie was an absolute gift to this world! I adored her and loved her as a dear friend even though I never had the pleasure to meet her personally. She taught me how to quilt and to crotchet. I made a beautiful quilt for my mother and several crotchet scarves and blankets for my family. Her love is stitched into each one of those items and her beautiful soul will always remain in my heart forever. I am so thankful to have known her.

God bless your beautiful and sweet family. You will be in my prayers. Let her love always shine through your hearts!
