Hey Everyone! Today I wanted to share with you the traditional one color granny square tutorial with you! This method is slightly different than the type of granny square that changes colors and when I asked my Facebook live audience if it would be helpful, the answer was a major… yes!
Granny squares are one of the most iconic and popular projects in the crochet world. My favorite thing about granny squares is that since you make 1 at a time, they can be very fun and satisfying. I also love that you can use some modern colors or cool yarn to make this nostalgic and familiar design modern.
One Color Granny Square
Worsted weight yarn of choice or something similar
Hook that corresponds with yarn choice
slip knot, ch 4
insert hook in first stitch and slip stitch to close and make a circle
ch3 (counts as dc), 2dc in the center of the circle
*3dc in the center of the circle, ch 2 *repeat 3 times for a total of 4 dc clusters. Finish with a ch 2 and sl st to first ch 3 to finish round.
ch 3, 2 dc in the ch 2 space to the RIGHT of the ch3 (“behind” the stitches)
3dc in the next ch 2 space, ch 2, 3dc again in the ch 2 space. Do this for all the ch2 corner spaces. End with a ch2 and slip stitch to initial ch 3.
Another great granny project!
