Today, I have a fun video for you. I have 10 easy half square triangle quilt layouts to share! I was working on this quilt as part of my upcoming quilt along (its the waste of our block, so we are doing 2 quilts at once).
Layout #9 is one of my favorites!
Half Square Triangle Tutorial
Ok, so having the half square triangle quilt layouts is great, but what about the actual hst units? Here is a video showing you how to create the half square triangle.
10 Half Square Triangle Quilt Layouts
This first layout is a faux flying geese layout. I love flying geese, but that block is slightly more advanced than the hst so I love this as an alternative.
This 2nd layout has this diamond shape without the bias edges. If you cut fabric on the diagonal, it will have stretch to it and makes it more of an advanced technique. This way is much easier ;).
I love this third layout, the adorable pinwheel! See how each one of these half square triangle quilt layouts look so different? It’s so awesome.
Take a look at that hourglass look… and better yet the secondary design! That secondary square pattern is very clear with this layout and a great opportunity to practice quilting techniques or different designs with hand stitching. You could also turn this sidewise and it would be more of a bowtie look.
This is a take on layout 1 with that faux flying geese, however take a look at that second row. See how I rotated that block and the “background” fabric is now the triangle shape or the “geese”? Creates a really dynamic and modern look!
Here is a really popular layout for half square triangle quilts. Don’t they look like sail boat sails? Make it a scrappy look or in color groupings.
Looking for a beginner friendly quilt tutorials?
Check out this one, even with in this layout you can do so much! This creates such a bold look!
Similar to layout 7, this one creates squares. So cute!
Ok, I think along with layout 5 this is my favorite. I love how this radiates from the center and creates a very different look rather than a sea of triangles.
Here’s a classic chevron style layout. I love this option for scrappy quilts!
